Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the procedure take to remove the ear wax?

Microsuction earwax removal usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes. As well as being safe and quick, it’s comfortable and hygienic. Of course, your hearing aid audiologist will explain what they are doing throughout the procedure.

Should I use softening drops on impacted earwax?

We recommend using olive oil ‘ear drop’ morning and evening for two to three days before your visit. This will soften the build-up/blockage of earwax and aid its removal.

What happens during my appointment?

Before we carry out your Microsuction wax removal, you’ll have a thorough consultation with your ear care specialist. This is when we discuss and note your relevant medical history and you can ask any questions.

We then use a specialised instrument, with a tiny video camera that transmits images to a screen, to look into your ears. This is called video otoscopy and you will be able to see the earwax in your ear canals before we begin Microsuction.

During your procedure, your qualified practitioner uses a special binocular microscope to view the ear canal and eardrum while using a low-pressure suction device to very gently remove the earwax.

What’s your fee for the procedure?

The total price is £60, which includes the initial consultation, video otoscopy and removal of earwax in either one or both ear canals.

Please note: if no wax is present there is still a charge of £25 fee for your consultation and appointment slot.

Why choose us?

Our team are all fully qualified, registered HSPC audiologists who have specifically trained in earwax removal and regularly complete ongoing training.

Our practice is digitally linked to ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) consultant Simon Prowse BSc(hons), MBBch(hons), FRCS(ORL-HNS), PGCMedEd who assists in providing second opinion and enabling our practice to direct refer.

We work to exceptionally high standards in earwax removal. We put our patient’s safety first, and utilise only ENT grade equipment during each procedure.

All of our practices are fitted with ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) grade binocular microscopes.  These Microscopes provide crystal-clear three-dimensional imaging characterised by great depth of focus and exceptional colour brilliance.

All procedures are performed in ENT grade surgical chairs. These patient chairs are designed to allow patients to be positioned in the safest and most comfortable position during their procedure.

All equipment used during the procedure is single use, and all water-based systems are sterilised on a strict basis ensuring safe and hygienic surroundings.
