It's that time of year when the 'common cold' becomes more... Common?
Did you know that a simple cold infection, can in some cases have a devastating impact on your hearing?
Many people that suffer with cold like symptons, can often experience impaired hearing due to the infection causing blockages in certain pathways. If you are feeling unwell and have noticed your hearing deteriorate during a cold or similiar illness, it is very important to get your hearing checked by a hearing specialist. In severe, and rare cases, cold and flu sufferers can experience swelling in the inner ear, which can compress nerve cells. If you leave this untreated, nerve cells will eventually die which can potentially lead to long-term hearing loss.
Nerve damage being caused by a cold infection needs to be treated with steroids within two weeks or the damage can be severe.
