Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the procedure take to remove the ear wax?
Microsuction ear wax removal usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes. As well as being safe and quick, it’s comfortable and hygienic. Of course, your hearing aid audiologist will explain what they are doing throughout the procedure.
Should I use softening drops on impacted earwax?
We recommend using olive oil ‘ear drop’ morning and evening for two to three days before your visit. This will soften the build-up/blockage of earwax and aid its removal.
What happens during my appointment?
Before we carry out your Microsuction wax removal, you’ll have a thorough consultation with your ear care specialist. This is when we discuss and note your relevant medical history and you can ask any questions.
We then use a specialised instrument, with a tiny video camera that transmits images to a screen, to look into your ears. This is called video otoscopy and you will be able to see the earwax in your ear canals before we begin Microsuction.
During your procedure, your qualified practitioner uses a special binocular microscope to view the ear canal and eardrum while using a low-pressure suction device to very gently remove the earwax.
What’s your fee for the procedure?
The total price is £60, which includes the initial consultation, video otoscopy and removal of earwax in either one or both ear canals.
Please note: if no wax is present there is still a charge of £25 fee for your consultation and appointment slot.
